| | | Lizard Orchid in Sandwich, Kent I am visiting Deal/Dover next week and have been told that the Lizard Orchid grows at Sandwich. Can anyone tell me where to look ? I fear that it is too late to find in flower now.
Also, what other special flowers should I look for ? I expect to see plenty which are new to me, coming from Scotland, but it would be good to ID one or two rarities.
Best wishes,

| | | Re: Lizard Orchid in Sandwich, Kent I've never been to look myself, but apparently the are on the golf course, adjacent to the road that leads to Sandwich Bay. Just over a stile off the road. Bit vague I know!

| | | Re: Lizard Orchid in Sandwich, Kent You're right in suggesting that the Lizard Orchids will truly be over now. |

| | | Re: Lizard Orchid in Sandwich, Kent I understand they are over but it is well worth a visit. Best thing to do is call in at the visitors centre and they will direct you. Maybe Marsh Helloborine still out? - this is a key area in Kent for them.

| | | Re: Lizard Orchid in Sandwich, Kent I just caught the last of the Cambridge Lizard orchids last weekend. Most had completely finished but I did find a few photographable specimens. I think that I really needed to go to this particular site at least a week before. I doubt very much that you will find any still out in Kent now.
Marsh Helleborines should be out and in great condition though. I saw a few of these yesterday in North Norfolk along with Early Marsh orchids (not very early if you ask me!).

| | | Re: Lizard Orchid in Sandwich, Kent Thanks for the helpful suggestions. I will certainly find the visitors' centre and ask for Marsh Helleborine.
Today in Corrie Fee I have been photographing Yellow Milk-Vetch, Oxytropis campestre, which might intrigue one or two readers. I must see if it is in the Gallery yet.

You could try looking for the Marsh Hellborin at Sandwich If I remember correctly if you go out from the Bird Observatory cross the small road over style look right and they are in a ditch very close to the ground. The Lizard you canot miss they are all over re golf course when in flower worth a look you never know been very funny weather here I live some 8miles from Sandwich. Also check ditches for Bee Orchid. You can always try Wye downs for the real rareity the Late Spider you may be in luck. Liottle earlier and you would have had the Monkey Orchid goo dluck
