| | Orchid outside my House on the grass verge I love these islands, I came out of my side gate went to cross the road to cut through the castle grounds into Stornoway when as I looked left then right something purple on the verge caught my eye.
An Orchid.........yipee on the doorstep. Now you have all been very helpful and I am still confused, I don't think it can be either an Early Marsh Orchid or Northern Marsh as it had spots on its leaves. So I guess Heath Spotted but the spots were near the base not on the tips and this plant seems purpler (if thats a word) than ones I saw last week.
My new book is in the post office so please what is my own (well nearly) Orchid.
Thanks again
Debs
PS remembered to get pic. of leaves this time |

| | | Re: Orchid outside my House on the grass verge The Northern Marsh Orchid, subspecies cambrensis, has spotted leaves + has been recorded from Outer Hebrides. There is also Hebridean Marsh Orchid, D. ebudensis, which has very heavily marked leaves. Personally I'd go for former taxon! |

| | | Re: Orchid outside my House on the grass verge Hi folks, looking at the photo at the top of the post I'm wondering whether this would also be Northern Marsh Orchid?
It was growing among Western Marsh Orchids (dact.majalis spp.occidentalis) in SW Ireland which would put it fairly far south of usual range, but there are pre 1999 records in that area for it. Or Early Marsh Orchid.......? | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
