| | | Re: Little Weed start some fox glove seeds off now in small pots they will be ok outside if you dont have greenhouse..in pots up your house wall then you will be able to plant them out in september and they will flower next year..I also did that with mullein and teasels.. planted them out september then i seeded in early march i covered my seed with a thin layer of compost to hide it from the birds,.. I also threw a packet of ornamental grasses in with my wild flower seeds..as i am fond of grasses..I also have a lot of chamomile and ox eye daisys in my wildflower patch..look forward to seing your patch.. I have a lot of late flowers to come yet the willowherb and loosestrife and it will be in colour till the frost gets here..

The seeds can lie dormant for years and yeas and years, as can foxgloves - the local wildlife trust scraped out a stagnant pond near me some years ago, and foxgloves up to six foot appeared - Like a film set, it was unbelievable. show gets worse each year now as undergrowth re-encroaching.
You could disturb a small patch I suppose? |

| | Re: Little Weed you will have to let us see what you produce i am moving next spring so i shall have to leave mine behind and restart again somewhere else..It doesnt matter what sort of garden i get next as i shall rip it too bits anyway.. As i like native wildflowers/herbs..I have foxgloves over 6 foot high this year they look magnificent and also my mulleins are flowering and they are my favourite plant.. I also have wildflowers in the front garden the borders their are full to bursting as well but i have some different varietys out the front like goats rue and cardoons and i have to say the goats rue is spreading sideways .. still i may as well enjoy it this year take lots of photos as someone will probably rip it up when they buy this house.. I dont think about that..!!!!
glad you like my site i wanted to produce a forum just for herbs and fortunately its doing quite well..every week i get new things appear my st john wort is ready to open its flowers so i shall have splashes of yellow..I think wild flowers are wonderfull with their true colours..I dont like man made plants at all..

| | | Re: Little Weed Is the willow casting much shade? How dry is it underneath? You do have to grow the right plants for the conditions. Fo example if it is a sunny spot and you want to grow a wild flower meadow do not add any top soil as with too much fertility the grass will just take over. By contrast if it is shady and wet you may be better off growing ferns and hostas.
It is helpful to look over the fences and see what is successful in your neighbours gardens. |
