Fishing on the Isle of Skye

Hi, we are holidaying on Skye in Febuary 2012 but my husband wants to go beach fishing, any suggestions for the best places to do this and what we are likely to be catching.

any assistance would be greatfully received.

I have some (limited) experience of sea fishing on Skye. The only method I use is lure fishing from the shore. On Skye, I have only caught pollack, but lure fishing does limit the range of species. Places I like are the stone jetty at Staffin at high tide and the jetty at Milovaig is good too. One of the best places to shore fish on Skye, is from the rocks at Neist Point (good sea-watching here, you can see basking sharks), but it is a bit of a walk from where you park the car. Bait fishermen have told me there are a good range of species from here. It looks ideal for Ballan wrasse.

Do bear in mind that in February water temperatures will be low and boat fishing will reap greater rewards as the fish move further out into deeper waters.
