NO I don't I am not 'self righteous' I cant see why they have to behave like this when others in the same circumstances don't. |

From that none of us even know what actually happened, if it was arson and if it was arson, who (or why) they did it.
But the lack of facts hasn't stopped several posters assuming that if it does turn out to be arson, the culprit will claim to be a victim of society and therefore deserve to have their house trashed, be beaten with a baseball bat and have parts of their body cut off!
Same old, same old.....

You can scarcely walk a hundred yards down a street without encountering smashed bus shelters, broken newly planted saplings, graffiti etc.. It's so commonplace that it's become near invisible and part of the background.

Jim | I agree 100% but there is no simple remedy. If a kid (or adult) feels detached from society then they won't obey it's rules and I don't think any amount of draconian punishment will change them.
IMO it's all a sad reflection on how society has changed over the last 30 or so years. Personally I put it all down to Thatcher and the ongoing obsession with Uncle Sam's capitalist dream, but that's another argument.

| | | Re: arsonist sets fire to vistor centre I can guarantee nobody hates Thatcher any more than I do, but my personal view is that the current phase of resentment in our youth stems from the days of the Rap Music culture with all the hate phrases in the music (which I couldn't decipher anyway) and the drugs that come with it.
Another possibility is as Britain becomes more of a multi cultural society and less of a christian country our youth have finally broken free of the shackles of religion and have yet to learn how to handle their new freedom and they have become too reliant on drugs to 'smooth' the passage into their adulthood.
Sorry for mentioning religion, but I felt it was unavoidable in this context.

I DO hope this thread doesn't polarise between Daily Mail/Express readers & Guardian readers. The vast majority of people have political leanings which are more balanced. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
