| | Wildlife Spots Near Swale Kent? hi
ive posted similar threads on the amphibian + reptile forum but no-one seems to know anything about it... anyway does anyone know some good places for wildlife near swale, medway, maidstone (basically north kent)? ive recently moved here from london and there seem to be few places that interest me for their wildlife (im not really a bird watcher, though i like seeing kestrels and other falcons). ive tried elmley marshes, milton creek, oare marshes, elmley marshes, oare gunpowder works. riverside country park i did enjoy as i saw my first adder and tonnes of grass snakes but weirdly no amphibians.
anyway the question im trying to get through this long winded post is are their any other sites in north kent for wildlife (im particularly interested in amphibians, reptiles and mammals).
GCN lova
PS: you can PM me if you want.

At this time of year, reptiles and amphibians will be a bit thin on the ground. Try Elmley again in the spring when the marsh frogs are in full voice - it's wonderful. I've seen grass snakes there too, and on the mammal front it's the best place I know for getting close to brown hares. I have seen stoats there but they're a bit shy.
I really like Sevenoaks wildlife reserve but mainly for birds, insects, wildflowers and fungi. There are frogs, toads and newts there and I regularly see foxes, rabbits and grey squirrels there too. Also at Sevenoaks is Knole Park for fallow and sika deer, and more grey squirrels.
Out on the sand banks visible from Oare Marshes there are sometimes grey seals. Oare is another good site for marsh frogs and grass snakes, as is Stodmarsh near Canterbury. Stodmarsh has Konik ponies for grazing purposes too.
Hope this is some help!
