| | | Re: Places to go in the Lake District Thank you for your replies DivvyT, Woodman and almostnormal! I have such a long list of places to visit I'm beginning to wish that we had booked for two weeks instead of just the one! What a coincidence Divvy that you are going to the same village the week after us. We have booked a cottage called Pepper Yeat from a great company called Lakeland Hideaways. Well I'm off to do a google search to see what pops up, thanks again. Nicola.

| | | Re: Places to go in the Lake District Grizedale was mentioned before and that really is a great place to go as when i went there i managed to see a female merlin . And also the woods are stunning. If you go there i think you should hire bikes to get the best out of the forest as it covers a fairly large area . |

It can get very busy and over the years, has been heavily overgrazed on the fells. However, nearby peripheral places like Silverdale and the Cumberland Pennines are very good for wildlife.
Apart from the lonely male Golden Eagle at the head of Haweswater, you also have the Ospreys on Bassenthwaite. And, if you decide to climb one mountain, do Blencathra.

Whether or not you are allowed to do so is another matter.

| | | Re: Places to go in the Lake District Yes, you can camp on the fells above intake land (walled farmland) without permission. It's possible to find some nice discreet sppots if that's what you like. |
