Thanks very much everyone, some great info here and really getting me excited about the trip (as if I wasn't already ).

I'll certainly have to do a decent write up when I get back with hopefully some more tips for others who may go and, with any luck, some dceent photos too!

Just another little tip, if you are at all worried about having to rush to catch a booked ferry from Oban you can opt to drive a little further onto the Ardnamurchan peninsular where there is an unbookable ferry at Lochaline, much cheaper as well, about a 15min crossing. You also have to take the Corran ferry to get you onto Ardnamurchan but its only a 5 min crossing and runs back and forth all the time.

I'd recommend the Lochaline ferry as well; there used to be a food place at the ferry waiting area (bit much to call it a port...) that does vension burgers which are brilliant (I average a trip up there once every 10 years, but it's always done a good job!!)
