There's lots fabulous scenery around there, e.g. the pass at Rest and be Thankful, or the Kyles of Bute which are just to the south and east of Loch Fyne. Both Loch Fyne and Loch Lomond are beautiful.
For wildlife, you're not far from the Scottish Beaver Trial in Knapdale. The release site at Loch Coille Bharr is only seven miles from Lochgilphead on Loch Fyne.

| | | Re: Ideals \advice for trip to Central scotland Parts of coastal Fife are quite interesting, Tentsmuir Forest is supposed to be good for Dragons and Damsels, being coastal you may still see some in October. Vane Farm RSPB reserve is supposed to be very good for Geese in Autumn/winter, although I've never been. Shocking when you consider I was brought up less than 15 miles away from it.
Vane Farm is opposite Loch Leven, there is an island there which is one of the places where Mary, Queen of Scots was imprisoned.
For other places of historic interest, the Historic Scotland, and National Trust for Scotland websites are useful, links below. Historic Scotland - Search places to visit NTS Places to visit
Both are links to clickable maps which will bring up plenty of places to visit. I think that Historic Scotland have a reciprocal agreement with English Heritage, so that members of one get free entry to the others properties, but Im not 100% sure on that.

Dave p. | Oddly enough, the road to the Rest and be Thankful was on the Scottish news this morning, apparently there is some danger of a landslip somewhere along it.
I tend to always go north and west of here, rarely south these days, but there's a few things that I'd like to see that we just don't get up here, so I'm going to have to bite the bullet and get my pasport out.
