| | | Visit to Leighton Moss I am going to Leighton moss on Tuesday, can anyone say if the hides have opening windows for photography? I have only seen apparently non opening windows on internal hide photographs. Any other recommendations for Leighton moss would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance, Neil. |

| | | Re: Visit to Leighton Moss Hi there - we went to Leighton Moss a few weeks ago - we didn't go into every hide but all the ones we visited had opening top windows. We went to the left after leaving the visitor centre. We had lovely views of Marsh Harriers. We stayed just along the road from the reserve and had great views of Marsh Harriers over the caravan site and we saw more green woodpeckers than I have ever seen in my life!! Have a lovelyy visit. |

Thank you for your input I have noted the Eric Morecambe hide as a hide to visit. Due to a recent heart attack my mobility is restricted; my plan is to make this trip as a path finder trip with a second overnight trip to follow soon. The weather forecast for tomorrow if for the best day of the week, so fingers crossed.
Thanks Neil. |

| | | Re: Visit to Leighton Moss Neil, don't walk to the Eric Morecambe hide from the visitor centre. You can park within a short distance from it in a car park. There's a track that runs towards and under the railway that runs from the Carnforth/Warton Road to the south of the level crossing, turning left into the car park, . It runs down the side of a drain on the right with recently created wetland (stop and have a scan over the wall) on the left before going under the railway.
Don't leave any valuables in your car but don't let that put you off. There used to be a CCTV camera on the end of the barn near the car park.
High water is at 0815 tomorrow and is a low neap tide which means it probably won't push the waders into the lagoons..
Enjoy. |

| | | Re: Visit to Leighton Moss I was at Eric Morcambe Hide on Saturday afternoon. Water levels in EM Pool meant greenshank in particular were feeding very close to the hide, giving excellent photographic opportunities. A spotted redshank is also knocking about and that too came very close on one occasion, along with many common redshank. Water levels can change fairly quickly here however, and not just with tidal conditions, check in the sightings book in the corridor at the back of the centre to see what's been seen on the pools that day. To be honest, if I were visiting Leighton Moss tomorrow, Eric Morcambe Hide would be the first hide I'd visit. Other birds present at EM were a juvenile cuckoo, the first merlin of the 'autumn', and two pinkfeet, along with the usual little egrets, black-tailed godwits, etc.
Cheers
