sorry i wasnt being very specific, i meant mid wales as having native kites as this is the only place they survived, not gigrin farm.
i also meant if anyone new of other feeding stations around the country? im well aware of where the kites all are!!

| | | Re: gigrin farm There is a nice place in brecon - not as many kites as gigrin but a good stop on the way west all the same (can't remenmber the name though)
Prices risborough in the chilterns has loads of kites now, they are even coming down into the streets and play grounds to scavenge food. My mum also had two in her garden in wendover not that long ago.
Going back to Gigrin another nice vantage point is to climb the mountain and shoot back down towards the kites as they circle, wide angle and slow spead gives an interesting motion blur. Also they fly over you about 10ft away as they come in if you are lucky.

| | | Re: gigrin farm eeyore, hope this is not too daft a question but am I right in assuming there is only one mountain. The possibilities you describe sound very tempting, Jon

| | | Re: gigrin farm There are a number of mountains - as you would expect in mid wales, however only one of them is on the gigrin land. If you follow their nature trail past the pond hide and up the hill you will eventually get to the view point I describe, you might need to leave the path and climb further up the hill to get the right angle, gigrin don't mind so long as you don't damage anything. Allow yourself at least an hour and a half to two hours to get up to the view point from the farm, and stay up their for at least an hour after the feeding to get flight shots as the birds disperse.

the regular birders give me some hints on protocol and photographing from a hide like the ones at gigrin farm please,e.g using a tripod (probably only enough room for one leg!) I have every intention of getting there | I used a bean bag last time at Gigrin, Jon
