| | | County forums Just and idea but I was wondering if it would be worth considering a sub forum for counties, linked to Wild Places and Geography. Perhaps title it County Forums with the intention of starting threads about specific things that are happening in that county eg County fairs, wildlife walks, meets, happenings, wildlife spots even habitats specific to that county.
I wondered if a drop-down list of counties would keep things tidy. What do you think or am I being daft? I do understand it would mean a lot of work for someone to create it though.

| | | Re: County forums I would definitely be in favour of this. I love talking about the areas I visit in London and the South East, maybe a little too much , and my threads won't be of interest to many. BF does this, and most birding blogs that I know of are very regional.

| | | Re: County forums In the last 25 threads I started there are at least 4 threads that are very locations specific. E.g a question about where the Willow Tit was first recognised? (Coldfall Wood, London) and today a question about a park in, guess where, London again. Boring, boring, boring for most people and not relevant to People and Groups.
I even built a forum for Londoners once, and do plan to open it one day when I get inspiration for a web site. It is something lacking for the area I live in, and so WAB suffers "Deb's threads" in the meantime.

| | | Re: County forums I Like 'our Debs Threads', if they all went into different segmented areas then some might not read them.I like to see what is going on and having to go other sub forums would take up more time to see if they were of interest. Some blogs are not posted on and county forums may end up the same way.

| | | Re: County forums I can see both sides of this idea: for folk only interested in their immediate locality, it would save some browsing. On the other had those interested in more than one 'county' (and remember, some people don't have administrative counties!) - I live in South Yorkshire, a brief walk from Derbyshire and a bus ride from West Yorkshire or Notts .... Is there any great hardship in just using the 'meetings & events' section that we have at present? A thread can provide the geographical setting in its title, as well as indicating what the subject of the meet will be? |

| | | Re: County forums I am based within literally no more than 10 minutes driving distance of three different counties. Wildlife ignores man-made county (and country) boundaries, and so do I. Whatever next? - A hyperinterwebbynet forum called Wild About *County* (*substitute the county name you live in)?
Surely by posting the name of an area in a thread title plus location details in the first post, suffices to communicate what's going on and where.

The 'Meetings and Events' page isn't overloaded with threads so I don't think needs to be split up.
There is also the 'Events' section ( Wild About Britain - Calendar) where people could post meets, walks, fairs etc

| | | Re: County forums Just been over to BF to ask a question about migration in London. I simply didn't feel it would have so wide a response or interest here. Over there they have a forum for London, Greater London and Middlesex. Some of the birders that I know of in London are members there. I want to target questions to the right "audience".
If WAB had what I think is a section of the right specificity then I would have also posted the question here (but not exclusively).
