| | | Re: wonderful Britain!! Thanks, I'll have a look - I shall need to go to Leeds some time but maybe not this week. One of the great attractions of Leeds is the Museum which "never closes" except at Christmas .... and this Friday. Quote:

| | | Re: wonderful Britain!! Here in central Scotland there is just so much to see and there is huge variation in the landscape, from fertile lowlands with lots of fields and hedgerows to beautiful moorlands such as the Pentland hills. There are also many wild woodland areas within the city of Edinburgh as well as the many hills which have great views right across the city. |

| | | Re: wonderful Britain!! Totally agree. In August, my partner and I are setting out on a one-year around-Britain adventure in a motorhome. It's a huge deal for us - leaving our jobs, selling our home. But it's one of those once-in-a-lifetime things you sort of have to do. I'm so much looking forward to exploring more of these amazing islands of ours.
A few people have asked is why we're not travelling around mainland Europe instead. My answer is that there's still so much to see in Britain - some of the most beautiful and varied landscapes in the world, the wildlife, the history. Nothing against mainland Europe but we have so much on our own doorstep to explore and marvel at.

| | | Re: wonderful Britain!! There are many areas in the World I'd like to see - eg Alaska, Yellowstone, but we are blessed with a huge wealth of nature in the UK.
I, too, am not one for sitting on beaches - got to be doing something and as I can't stand heat (about 20C or at a push 22, is about enough for me) the more traditional sun seeking holiday has never been on my list.
This week on the NW coast has being interesting - difficult to stand up on one day and it rained for about 23 hours, but yesterday was magic - a bit cold but good sun. Walked around Inverewe Gardens for about 3 hours and met 6 people (and two of those worked there). Saw the usual suspects - eider, merganser, oystercatcher, heron, buzzard, curlew and then two otters in the seaweed - could not want for more.
