| | | Re: wonderful Britain!! Driving through Devon off the main roads you come across some beautiful sight... Also down in Cornwall.... we tend to not drive on main roads (normally end up getting lost for ages) Just to see the scenic countryside and its Wildlife....So many people miss it all because the are always in a hurry and want to get from A to B as quick as possible....if only they realised what they were missing and the pleasure it brings.... |

| | | Re: wonderful Britain!! Years ago, we had a holiday in which we went by train to Devon, and stayed in a hotel. In the evenings, we would compare notes on where we'd been. Everyone else had cars, and were going far away from the hotel. We were finding glens and woods and waterfalls and brooks, and saw all sorts of wildlife, which everyone else seemed to be missing, because they were all off to the tourist spots miles away.

On a grey and drizzly January morning in Essex, I am looking forward to my trips to Norfolk, the Yorkshire Dales, Wales, the Scottish Highlands, etc. again this year .... wonderful Britain indeed! Richard | I fail to see the attraction of flying anywhere but wouldn't be without my regular Mediterranean fix! And, quite so, why would one want to sit all day on the beach. So we travel by train, boat, 'bus or car hire - big advantage is that you see the 'real' part of the countries you visit as well as places en route.
Travel aside (although when I last sussed out the train fair to Western Scotland I decided that southern France was cheaper) it is usually more economic to holiday around the Med (if you're not going for first class hotels &c) than in UK .... and you can sit up most of the night talking to the beetles, cicadas and moths ....
But, if you're doing UK - don't forget the humble Peak District - good walking, good habitats and good beer ..... |

| | | Re: wonderful Britain!! Who's Al Murray?
But that's a good way of putting things, I think. This is the place where we want to live, probably because it's where we do live and there are lots of great things to see and do. Doesn't stop us wanting to see more - especially the things which you don't get in the UK ..... all those insects in the Med - but they'll be here shortly, I suppose, if the climate keeps warming? | | | Re: wonderful Britain!! I agree, it's amazing how different some places are, yet they are all beautiful, I'm sure if we didn't like in Britain, we would realise how much we actually don't appreciate at the moment, we always complain about the rain and stuff, but in a way, the rain is great, it's fantastic going to visit a place with a waterfall or something when it's raining.
Found something on Al Murray, I'd never heard of him. Clicky for Link

| | | Re: wonderful Britain!! Hi Paul
My husband works for the railway and said trains will be running normally this Friday (they only shut 2 days a year Christmas Day and Boxing Day).
The best website to look on for your train times is Transpennine Express First TransPennine Express: Buy Cheap Train Tickets | Train Fares | Timetables to Manchester, Leeds, Newcastle
Put your details of travel in and then you can see the best times for you and then click on the required train time and it will tell you which train operator it will be.
Hope this helps
