| | | Southern Lakes/Grisedale forest area Hi we are hoping to have a few days away end April/beginning of May and would like to visit this area.
Any ideas of places to visit would be welcomed (interested in birds, wildflowers, archeology and countryside in general). My husband is not able to walk far so long treks are not an option!
Also can anyone recommend a small (Caravan ClubCL) site in the area,
Thanks in advance for your help. |

| | | Re: Southern Lakes/Grisedale forest area It's a bit of drive from there (an hour perhaps?), but you could head up to Keswick to see the ospreys at Bassenthwaite. Saying that, you will be closer to Esthwaite Water, where ospreys are seen regularly these days in spring and summer. Also for the archaeology, not far from Keswick is the impressive Castlerigg Stone Circle. Ambleside isn't too far away either for 'Galava' (Roman remains). Why don't you contact 'The Woodman' on WAB. He knows the area like the back of his hand.
Regards, Chris

And Park Coppice is a very nice CC site in South Lakes? |

Thanks in advance for your help. | Meathop Caravan Club Site isn't small and its ten years since we stayed there but I remember it being very nice and in the right place for us - just off the A590 - which got us into the Lakes or back to Silverdale, Arnside, Leighton Moss and was handy for Grange over Sands for shopping, the estuary etc. I can't remember whether there are any really small (5 only kind of thing) but a look on the Caravan Club Website might produce this info?
Here are just a few suggestions for you to investigate - Leighton Moss at Silverdale for birds; Walney Island for breeding gulls, passing waders, and eider ducks! (tho a bit of walking involved) North Walney for flowers (prob a bit too much walking ?) Foulshaw Moss has a short walk to the observation platform; and just about any footpath along any of the south lakeland rivers are likely to be quiet with only workers or locals walking as most visitors head into the Lakes to the honeypot areas like Windermere and Grassmere!
Have a lovely break
Pauline
A quick google has produced this link but I haven't been in and looked - will leave you to read on! http://www.caravanclub.co.uk/plannin...e-site-network http://www.caravanclub.co.uk/caravan...21935&pgrf=map

| | | Re: Southern Lakes/Grisedale forest area Thanks a lot PMG. I get as much pleasure from planning our few short breaks as I do in actually going. Great to have info from folks who know the area. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
