| | | Mersea Island Has an early morning walk on Mersea Island this morning. Did not see anything rare but what a place! I feel quite ashamed I have neglected it up to now.
For example -
Brent geese,
Widgeon - loads
Redshank
Lapwings
Heron
Teal
Curlew
Black tailed Godwit - about 20
Shovelers
and
Turnstone
one of which was very tolerant of humans (sorry the photo is not that good, it was pretty dull this morning).

| | | Re: Mersea Island Has had some good birds over the years - Forster's Tern, Black Stork, Red-breasted Goose etc. Usually gets overlooked by birders because it is surrounded by plenty of other marshland and saltmarsh sites. I've always found that stretch of coats difficult to work due to the many single lane roads and dodgy road signs.
Cheers,
Adam |

| | | Re: Mersea Island Know what you mean Adam. It is a surprising remote area and the Blackwater and Colne estuaries, and the other small creeks make getting along the coast a bit tortuous.
