| | | Ardnamurchan My OH and I are going to Arnamurchan staying at Resipole for a week at the start of September. Any help where we can see wildlife would be appreciated. We have a few ideas but would welcome ideas, locations from people who know the area. We are keen to see pine martens but anything is fine.
Thanks in advance |

Thanks in advance | There was a thread on Ardnamurchan in the mammals section of WAB, at the beginning of this month. It should give you some info' to be getting on with.

| | | Re: Ardnamurchan Martens regularly visit the feeders at the chalets to the rear of Resipole campsite.
Otters are fairly easy to see along the shoreline and keep your eyes open for the porpoises in the loch off Resipole.
There's an Otter holt on the low tide accessible island, Eilean Mor, in the NM7560 square, aalso one on the peninsula NM7561 and an early morning or dusk stakeout should see one or two.
From one of these points, and I can't remember which one, I watched an eagle quartering the fellside on the south side of the loch opposite.
I've had Wildcat turn up at a Marten feeder at a property just west of Strontian but I think you'll be very lucky to see one.
It's a cracking area, enjoy it. |

| | | Re: Ardnamurchan I've just returned from a week there. The eastern side of Kentra bay is good for waders just before the tide starts to go out and immediately afterwards. Go to Arivegaig, park in the parking place and walk along the footpath. Magical early in the morning. Ariundle oakwoods is a terrific place and worth a visit. Ask locally for pine martins because some locals attract them by putting out jam sarnies etc! Ask in a village shop or the tourist Info . There's very good and detailed info in Gordon Hamlett's "Best Birdwatching sites in the Scottish Highlands" Buckingham Press.
Enjoy yourself!

| | | Re: Ardnamurchan Had a week up there in August. A boat trip on Loch Shiel could well give sightings of Black-throated and possibly Red-throated Divers, plus mergansers. Ardnamurchan Point had plenty of Twite around and it's also supposed to be a good whale etc watching point on a good day. The Ardnamurchan Wildlife Centre at Glenborrodale might be a useful place to call in at, and if you are left hankering after Mull, you can ferry to Tobermory from Kilchoan (leave the car by the quay for free), or look up Ardnamurchan Charters for a variety of water-bound options. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
