Devon Bird Watching

Hi, have returned to Devon for the summer, am in south devon on the edge of dartmoor. But am getting withdrawal symptoms from the Norfolk broads lol. So does any one know of some good spots in the area? Preferably with easy'ish access dont want to walk miles after recent accident has left me finding it a bit harder to get around and only being able to use one arm for time being haha

I'm a little bit south of you; and tend to mostly concentrate on insects around the Coast Path area.

Just a suggestion; have you considered the Slapton Lee Field Centre area?

Can't speak from personal experience but I believe it is a popular spot for bird watching and I think they have some disabled access there.

A few local groups have hides around some estuaries but most entail a bit of rough walking.

there is a bus service which will take u round dartmoor from widicombe in the moor

Dawlish Warren, I think there is fairly easy access from the railway station. I've never been there myself but it looks flat from the train and there are always birds on the estuary mud.

Also, by car, there's Stover Country Park, on the A382 just off the A38 (Drumbridges roundabout). That's flat.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, and the link Geoff, have not been on that site before will have a good check around it.

Am really quite close to stover, have been before a few times walking around always a nice hour or so. Is the hide thats there open to everyone? If so can sit up there for a while lol. Maybe I'll go check it out on saturday.

Stover looks much improved since I used to go there (they have loos!).

I just love the rebranding - the old post-war forestry commission plantation is now the "pinetum"!.

therev is a nother bus srevice called the " haytor hopper" number 271 only saturdays at the moment but from thursdays 27th may all summer it takes u round dartmoor hope this helps have fun

Yarner Wood is nearish to Manaton. Waren House Inn on Dartmoor is good too, particularly to the south of the road.
The Exminster Marshes and Topsham Marshes.
Two Very good areas in my opinion.
