| | | My trip to Norfolk Got my passport out and headed south, down of the hills, and into Norfolk. Must admit it wasn't quite what I was led to believe.
They said it was flat - well not quite; here's definite proof of an undulation:
They said it was the county of big skies, well this one at Holkham Marshes is very long but not very tall but it was full of Marsh Harriers, Brent Geese and Little Egrets (don't get them at home).
They said there were some wonderful beaches along the north coast, well this beech is very nice but pretty much the same as any other beech:
They were right about the churches though - lots of them and this one, St Withburga's Church at Holkham was very pretty if a little spooky and with a slightly strange name - With-Burger? shouldn't it be Burger With? - Fries or Salad or something like that, anyway it was nice, the church not the burger:
Did manage to see some really nice birds, over 100 species in five days including Stone Curlew and Crane that I've never seen before. Would I go back - probably, but in winter when it's really wild and the skies are full of pink feet.

I love Norfolk, especially if you can find bits that aren't chock full of other people |

| | | Re: My trip to Norfolk Hi Gill and Pete - I really do like visiting Norfolk but I find it quite hard to photograph - a lot depends on how good the sky is. These two worked (I think) but a lot of the others I took had much less interesting looking skies and because the landscape tends to be flat a bland sky means too much of the shot lacks interest.
I'll have to keep going back and trying I guess. The wildlife though is second to none, especially along the north coast but there do seem to be more and more people around every time I visit. Luckily the Brent Geese were still around and were surprisingly easy to approach despite all the people walking through the marshes.

Thanks for sharing the images since now I know exactly what to expect. Definitely gives you more idea when it is coming from a person's perspective rather than a company's |

| | | Re: My trip to Norfolk For visitors to Norfolk, the shell museum at Glandford is a 100% must: The Shell Museum, Glandford, North Norfolk (Glandford Shell Museum) - Home Page
The adjacent St Martin's Church is also worth visiting.
Nearby Weybourne is also interesting. It's a small unremarkable village, with a drab sandy eroding coast. Its interest is that it has deep water anchorage close to the shore and was thus of great strategic importance in earlier times, hence the old saying: "He who would old England win, must at Weybourne Hoop begin."

I haven't really ever explored the Broads area, maybe next time.

Thanks for that - I will add the Shell Museum on my list of places to visit next time, sounds very interesting.
