Firstly I do agree that creating rides through a wood is beneficial.
BUT the real question is WHY DO WE INSIST ON WINTER MANAGEMENT when summer management is so much less distructive of wildlife? WEll I can tell you the answer to that and it isn't good! It is because it is easier FOR US!!! Don't have to deal with so many leaves and growing things.

Keep us updated, please! A ride like this will, as said, reap good rewards such as seeds that may germinate having laid dormant for years, additional plants growing via coppicing, and additional insects associated with said plants. The bare ground will be a good location for basking butterflies, flies, etc. and a hunting ground for Lycosid spiders, active-hunting beetles, etc. Mining bees from the Andrena genus may set up home too.

I bet there are new shoots already! The additional light created by this 'mis-hap' will be quite beneficial I'm sure
