Birds in New Galloway/Castle Douglas Area
I think there are a few members of WAB who live in this area so I thought I'd ask for some advice. I was wondering if there is any interesting birdlife around at the moment as I'm coming up there for a long weekend next Saturday?

I fear that I might be too late for the winter species and too early for spring!

Not from the area but have paddled Loch Ken in my canoe several times. That area is full of majestic Red Kites which I've seen in early March, June and August in various points along the water.

Hi Billy, there are lots of places you can visit around there including: The RSPB: Ken-Dee Marshes, The Galloway Red Kite Trail, Red Kites, Loch Ken, The Glenkens, Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland - Official website, Property Details for Threave, you are also not far from the Galloway Forest Park which is a must visit Forestry Commission - Galloway Forest Park
