I'm in full agreement with you there Jeff, but "good value" does not necessarily mean "affordable". I used to regularly switch between membership of the National Trust and English Heritage because I simply couldn't run to family membership of both organisations at the same time. If they'd offered a joint membership option at a cost somewhere between membership of one and membership of both this might have been within my reach and they'd have got more of my money overall. But as you say this may have been eaten up by the admin costs.

As I recall Lakenheath is free to visit. A decent public footpath follows the drain through the reserve. I've never shelled out anyway. I do like the idea of local pass systems though.
