Titchfiled Haven which also has the beach at Hillhead with views Isleof Wight and the lovely little harbour as a bonus and Swaniwick Nature Reserve near the National Aviation Centre is a little known but lovely place with lots lakes and if you go far enough through you can walk along the side of Hamble river.
There are photos of both places in my Gallery if you want to see

| | | Re: Portsmouth and nearby The mudflats in Portsmouth harbour are fab for brent geese (which sometimes get close enough to photograph) and a multitude of waders, Porchester Castle is a good viewing point and the castle itself is quite good for photographs if you get good weather. There's also a good chippy nearby too but that's perhaps by the by |

There's WWT at Arundel too, which isn't too far from Portsmouth. Arundel - Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust (WWT) |

| | | Re: Portsmouth and nearby There is plenty to see not far from Portsmouth and plenty of variety too. Mud flats in tidal creeks at Pagham harbour and Chichester harbour. Rolling downland around Bigenor and elsewhere where you can see hares and deer. There are cracking views from the Trundle which is next to Goodwood Race Course (horses not the cars) and from Whiteways Lodge which is on the A29 at Houghton. The car park at Whiteways Lodge leads to Houghton Forest. There is also Slindon Forest (sadly flattened during the '89 gale but is coming along) and the Rewell Wood just north of the A27 before Arundel. There are loads of walks around the whole of West Sussex including parts of the South Downs Way.
I love the county (I was born there) and wish I could spend more time there. Any other info you need don't hesitate to ask. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
