As you can see it's quite high up over the lake so good for watching the grebes but not so clever for photographing them. However the trees just to the left of it in the picture yield these kind of close-ups...

| | | Re: Best Wildlife Photography Hides I was at RSPB The Lodge on Friday - they have a good hide facing 2-3 feeders, with adjacent brambles and a tree offering good perches.
Not sure of the name of the hide, but it's roughly where the red dot is on this map (it overlooks one of the three the small ponds): http://www.rspb.org.uk/Images/lodge_352_tcm9-39086.gif
You can't get close enough for frame filling shots, but it's still pretty good.
