Hi everyone, I just thought I`d tell you about our first trip to Martin Mere on Oct 25th. We have been to Slimbridge a few times as it a bit closer but thought we`d make an effort & go to Martin Mere. We had a brilliant day (apart from M6 ) It is nice to see the captive birds but obviously the real attraction for us are the wild ones. It was very windy. We saw a couple of peregrines in the field, one eating it`s dinner (too far away for my camera to get good shots), It was my first experience of watching geese in mass numbers, several massive flocks of Pink footed geese arrived throughout the day. Whooper swans had arrived as well. There were also a good number of Ruffs ( kindly IDed for me by you kind folk), another first for us On the feeders were Chaffinch, Greenfinches & we were over the moon to see Tree Sparrows We haven`t seen any for years despite looking hard they seem very few & far between. Red Admirals were still out & about, & I was amazed to see a Common Darter & a Migrant Hawker (think that`s right)
Here are a few photos, not very good
