| | | Sandwich (and Pegwell) Bay Anyone here been to Sandwich Bay in Kent? I was going to go there today but was baffled by the contrasting infomation on where to park, where you can walk and when and how much the toll road is (and if I need to use it!). Didn't even get tot the point of checking what birds were around! Can anyone enlighten me to the answers to the above confusion please? |

When I lived at Rainham, down the road from you, I went there (about 12 years ago) and had the same confussions. I ended up driving down to Dungeness and saw my first med gulls amongst other goodies!! Never bothered going back to sandwich and now live miles away!! |

Pegwell bay is easy just head for Ramsgate and turn off for Sandwich just before you get there, this road will take you past Pegwell bay, park for free buy the garage and then walk that's what I do, or go a little further and park in the country park but there is a fee for this.
Sandwich bay is much more difficult to explain, you cant get to the observatory without going on the private estate and having to pay the toll which is quite steep, about £5 if I remember correctly. You can park near the toll booth and walk it's only a few hundred yards.
If it's the bay itself you want you are better of going to Deal then head for the golf course and drive through it till you get to the other entrance of the private estate and park round there somewhere then walk through the small woods to the sea shore.
Hope that's of some use.
