| | | Old Maps I spent hours last night and early hours of this morning looking very closely at a very old Dartmoor Map. I tried following some of the routes that my Son and I took many years ago, but found it almost impossible.
There's far many more Hut Circles and Stone Circle's on this older Map than any Map of Dartmoor I've seen lately.
I was particularly looking for a Crossroads, a Crossroad where a young Woman called Jane was laid to rest. Could anyone point me in the right direction please, I'd so like to find this place on this old Map that I found whilst looking for something else, that's been hidden away for the past 10 years.
Cheers |

| | | Re: Old Maps An interesting tale, so I Googled it. I couldn't find Jane's grave, but did find Jay's grave, by a crossroads along the road from Heatree Cross to Hound Tor it said. It is the last resting place of Kitty Jay apparently. If you go there Blooming, take a picture and put it on WAB, I'd really like to see it.

| | | Re: Old Maps Yes I found the same thing - alled Jay's grave, so similar sounding. This said Mana ton - is that the same place? It said: The legend of Jay’s Grave is famous throughout Manaton. Kitty Jay, a serving girl, was seduced and became pregnant while working at Ford Farm, Manaton. Persecuted by locals, she hanged herself and according to tradition, buried at a crossroads.
It was usually suicides that were buried at crossroads wasnt it? The grave is now tended it seems.

| | | Re: Old Maps Fresh flowers are left at the Grave daily but no-one has ever seen the person who leaves them. A few coppers are also left. I'm gonna check out Ford Farm on the Map. |

| | | Re: Old Maps Thanks for the link dartmoorlander, helped me out Alot. I found out that the grave was near Manaton, so I was able to find it on the old map. There are several crossroads, and I'm wondering if you know which one it could be.

Sylv. | The link takes me to Canada Gypsy Orchid, unless I'm doing something very wrong. It's gotta be the Fairy's that leave the flowers, I bet.
Apparently the Grave was opened at some stage and only Animal bones were found. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
