| | | My Holiday in South Uist Just got back from 2 weeks holiday in South Uist. It was just incredible. Amazing scenery, amazing wildlife and really nice people.
First of all, I achieved one of my lifetime ambitions and saw wild otters. In fact I saw 3 in the first evening there!!! Not a single one after that but still. One of them was hunting in Loch Boisdale which we could see from the back of the house. He was there for a good half hour
In fact the best viewpoint on the holiday was looking out of the bathroom window with my scope LOL. From there I got Otters, Common Seals, a Golden Eagle, Black Throated Diver, and best of all, a male Hen Harrier hunting in the back garden. It was literally 20 yards away. I was beginning to wonder if the toilet had magical properties.
We were woken every morning by a pair of Cuckoos in the tree outside the house.
Also managed White Tailed Eagle, Whimbrel, Great Northern Diver and 2 Corncrakes One of them ran right out in front of us on the path. My bird total for the fortnight stood at 67 species, with 5 lifers.
Despite the lousy weather in the first week we were just tripping over wildlife from morning till night. Even managed to get sun burnt in the last few days.
Already planning to go back next year. |

Glad you had a good time! |

Actually, yeah the weather was awful and the ferry ride across was terrifying. Come to think of it, forget I ever mentioned it, terrible place. |
