Chris - I've just been corrected by my wife (again ) we come back on the 23rd May !!!!!
Your not staying at Ballygown are you !!!!!
It looks like I will be able to access the net from our cottage so I can send you some info.
Jim - We used the same people for our trip to Staffa and Lunga, his wife Pat was very helpful to us last year when we had problems with our accomodation.
I recall seeing the old bit of kit at the bottom of some rocks but never went down to investigate.
Thanks guys.

| | | Re: Isle of Mull Locations Glad the thread has helped you too Cherry.
There were trips like Ulva that were quite low on my list, but now they are a must.
If I can find out some useful stuff the I'll post it here. Things like is it worth visiting the Sea Eagle nest etc.
We went last year but they had nested way up the hillside from their location the year before and we didn't anything except a couple of specks in a telescope that were the chicks.
Last year there was a Bearded seal there in Loch Na Keal apparently lost his way and should of been in the Artic or Canada. I'll try to post what I can.
Cheers

Ed | I'm at Bunessan Ed. It was the closest cottage to Iona I could get. I need to a see a corncrake, so the closer the better I figured.

| | | Re: Isle of Mull Locations Hi All,
Chris - Last year we went down to Fionnphort and we were really surprised at how nice the area was, don't know why we didn't visit it in 06.
Just south of Fionnphort is Fidden, if you haven't been there go and have a look the beaches are small but look like something from the tropics. Lovely spot.
Derek - Don't worry I'm usually confused from when I wake up until I go back to sleep. Last year we saw Sea Eagles nesting near Loch Scridain and watched a Seal and an Seagull fight over who was going to eat the Samon the Seal had caught.
Jim - Yes have seen people camping there on quite a few occassions, we will be staying just north of Loch Na Keal so hopefully I can leave the tent at home.
Thanks for your info.

| | | Re: Isle of Mull Locations All of Mull is wonderful - you'll have a fabulous time!
If you are into sea life, a cetacean-spotting boat trip is a must, and there are reputable organisations who do that on Mull, probably with details on the internet. I did one of those boat trips with my children about five years ago and it is one of the best things we have ever done, with close up viewings of porpoise and minke whale, and best of all brilliant sightings of basking shark who came right alongside the (stationary) boat.
Iona is lovely to explore by bike, which you can hire on the island, and has a lovely vantage point at the (northwards??) end of the island over the sea and the Mull coast.
Have a brilliant time, and tell us all about it when you get back! |

| | | Re: Isle of Mull Locations Hi Emma,
Thanks for the info, we took a Sealife Surveys trip last year and saw some Minke whales dolphins etc.
But the best was in 06, again with Sealife Surveys, we were asked if we wanted to transfer to another boat so that they could film part of the add for Visit Scotland. This would mean being out a little longer, we were the first onto the other boat.
It was truly amazing, a storm had brought masses of fish into the channel between Mull and the main land and they estimated over 200 dolphins were there feed on the fish. As the helicopter showed up to do the filming the boat started racing up the channel and everywhere you looked there were dolphins jumping out of the water.
It was an amazing experience and never seen anything like it.
Thanks for the tip on the bikes on Iona, may just do that.
