| | | Scilly question I am off to the Scilly Islands for a week on Saturday. I have quite a good idea of where I want to go and what I want to see but would be interested in anyone has any advise as to places to go and see. I am staying on St Mary's but intend to visit Tresco and hopefully other islands.
I will be mainly looking at flowers but will happily look at whatever presents itself to me.
Thanks

If so then you really ought to try (weather permitting!) to visit all the inhabited islands as each one has its own character and differs from the others. The Abbey Gardens on Treso are a must at any time of the year. St Agnes has the most amazing view out to the Western Rocks, a picturesque lighthouse, downs, beaches and the pasties from the Turks Head used to be pretty special too (but that was a good few years back so I can't vouch for them now!) St Martins has a long sweep of sandy beaches on both sides and the Daymark on one end, overlooking the Eastern Isles and (when I was last there in 2004) the Bakery had the very best Treacle Tart I have ever tasted! Bryher is smaller but lovely too and Hell Bay at the north end is the place to sit and watch the sea if it's in a wild mood. Don't neglect St Mary's either as there's loads to see there as well. If you're OK on boats and the opportunity arises, the trip out to the Bishop Rock lighthouse and the Western Rocks (stopping on the way back for the afternoon on St Agnes if you want) is great for birds and seals and who knows what else if you're lucky. Have a wonderful time (I am not jealous, I am not jealous... yes, I am!) Of course, it'll be early in the season so not all the trips will be running but make the most of it and go where you can. You'll probably be busy planning the next trip before this one's over - be warned: Scilly is addicitve!

The treacle tart sounds very tempting, Tuesday will be my birthday so maybe I can get one as a birthday cake | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
