| | | South Uist Just booked a couple of weeks holiday on South Uist in May. I only really have a general idea of the wildlife up there. Otters are may main hope and of course Eagles, Red Deer, Dolphins, whale and with any luck Corncrake.
Can anyone give me any ideas of where to visit while I'm up there?
Many thanks in advance |

| | | Re: South Uist I always camp and feel that corncrakes could be a mixed blessing, with them yelling their heads off all through the night outside my tent!

| | | Re: South Uist Benbecula is a great bet for Corncrakes in May Goat, though I'm sure South Uist should be very good too. I've booked Mull at the end of May, with two objectives in mind, to see a Corncrake and (weather permitting), climb Ben More.
I've never been to South Uist, but if it's anything like North Uist where I went last August, it will be amazing.
Regards, Chris

If the weather's bad on the hills you could try Macculloch's Tree: Macculloch's Tree

Regards, Chris | Went on a trip to Iona when on holiday in Mull last May. Had 2 good (but fleeting) views of a corncrake. Plenty of patience is required as you can hear them all around you but can't see them.

Dave | That's alright, I'll just chuck a few bricks in the grass to spook 'em out (only joking). People keep telling me this. I'll tell the missus to take the crossword and prepare for a long vigil. I shall return a broken man if I don't see one after going all that way.
Jim, I believe Ben More holds cloud and dismal weather like no other, due to its prominence on the western seaboard. I fancy the ridge route via A' Chioch, but if the weather is poor I'll check out your alternative. As a former Geology student, it looks right up my street. Thanks.
Ken, I have no idea what a clootie dumpling is, but it sounds like an unpleasant affliction of some sort!
Regards, Chris
