| | | WWT Martin Mere,Lancs. Had a trip here yesterday and were lucky enough to see some wonderful birds including a 20 year old Bewick called Jenny who had set off on her migration once but returned when the bad weather arrived!
There were 1000+ Whoopers as well as Pink Foots and Grey Lags.
We were treated to a superb flying display by a Marsh Harrier and also were lucky enough to see one of the first Ringed Plovers arrive.
A Peregrine Falcon kept the Lapwing flocks in the air with it's frequent fly pasts and the colony of Tree Sparrows were nest building in the many boxes around the reserve......a treat to see!
The Harrier hide in the pic is a newish addition and is a wonderful design in the shape of an outstretched Harriwer with patio length windows inside for superb views over the marshes.
All in all great day out with some really super sights! |

| | | Re: WWT Martin Mere,Lancs. Great photos from your day at Martin Mere, Ruth! How nice with the Ringed Plover, a super little bird to see anytime! The Harrier hide looks a great addition and with such good viewing windows I am sure it will be well appreciated by all! I will have to add Martin Mere to my 'to visit' list for 2009!
I am glad you had such a great day out, thanks for sharing! |
