| | | Re: How do I get Grid Reference Numbers on the Internet? A good 2c's worth charlieb, shame the mapping lacks other features that help identify an exact location.
I've just used it to record two road casualties seen today and in one case noticed that Stainton Beck culvert under the A590 at SD 520843 is not shown on the Google map despite the beck's size.
This is from the OS's "GetaMap" website at 50 000 but can be shown at 25 000. |

| | | Re: How do I get Grid Reference Numbers on the Internet? I discovered the other day that Microsoft's Bing Maps site has nice 'slippy' OS maps which cover a larger area than the GetaMap service on the OS website.
I also notice that another OS OpenSpace application "Where's the Path" hasn't been mentioned. This also has a click for OS GridRef button (bottom right). The thing I like about this is the ability to compare different kinds of maps (including some old OS maps). Just for fun here's a link to The Woodman's Stainton Beck location.
Along with IainL's site it just shows how quickly useful facilities have been added once the OS allowed reasonable terms and numbers of page impressions. |

You can get a OS grid reference on Google Earth as an overlay from British National Grid overlay for Google Earth at Digital Geography
The reference for the centre of the map is in the left hand pane. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
