| | | A frosty, misty and dull New Years Eve. Ventured out today in a very cold and misty day around Ulverston.
The pics aren't great but I guess the weather was the same around much of the UK today? |

| | | Re: A frosty, misty and dull New Years Eve. Not here it wasn't - we were basking in sunshine all day long. We are high enough up to be above the clouds today. Temperature didn't get above freezing all day though. Will post some photos when I get my broadband connection back on. It failed yesterday so am back on the old and slow dial up for the time being - pah

I spent three hours at Rutland Water this afternoon, it was freezin' and the light for photography was terrible, typically I found this Great Northern Diver in Whitwell creek, why cant they pose like this when the suns out?? |

| | | Re: A frosty, misty and dull New Years Eve. Had to pop into work to do the Met readings so whilst my broadband is down I tool advantage of the works computers to upload yesterdays photos.
It started wonderfully with clear blue skies and everthing covered by hoar frost:
The size of the ice crystals was impressive:
Just before dark the mist that had persistently filled the valleys started to creep up hill:
So by the time the sun finally set only the tops of the highest hills were clear of fog:
A perfect end to a cracking day, do feel sorry for all those stuck in the fog and under the cloud elsewhere. It's not unusual for us to have these winter inversions and for us to be in the sun above the clouds but every one is memorable.
ps If any one is interested we got down to -8.9°C last night, marginally warmer than the previous night when we had -9.1°C, and those were the proper minimums from the Stevensons Screen thermometers, the grass minimum came in at -10.4°C but we did have 4 hours of bright sunshine.
