| | | Wildlife on Tiree My local botany club is going for a 4 day field trip to the Isle of Tiree in late June. Hubby and I are going over for the trip, but will be going a couple of days beforehand because the island looks gorgeous.
I've had a look at the Island's website and there are a few places that look interesting, but if anyone else has been, are there any specific places or species I should be looking out for? We are both interested in all wildlife, not just flowers, hubby is also into archaeology if there are any intersting sites. |

| | | Re: Wildlife on Tiree I went there over a decade ago + the machair with it's wonderful flowers is excellent for a variety of breeding waders including drumming Snipe, Redshank, Ringed Plover, Oystercatcher + Lapwing. Of course there are the somewhat elusive Corncrake in the Yellow Iris, etc beds- easier to hear than see!
There are some rare bumblebees there + always a chance of Otters. |

| | | Re: Wildlife on Tiree I haven't seen or heard a Corncrake, so that's one I'll definitely have to look out for. I've not had much more than a passing glimpse of Otters, so I'd love to see more of them as well. I know a man who knows his bumblebees, so I'll quiz him about them as well. I'm starting to wonder if a week will be long enough to see everything.
I don't yet have a copy of "The Flora of Coll and Tiree", if I don't get it for Christmas, I'll look out for it in the new year, I think that it's available through the Island's website. |

| | | Re: Wildlife on Tiree You might find this website useful Skipinnish Sea Tours Isle of Tiree Scotland to see all that wonderful marine life. June would be perfect for seeing the basking sharks, whales & dolphins. I'm so jealous have a fantastic time.
