| | | Recommendations for an African Safari??? Hey Everyone,
Not sure if this is the right place to post this
Me and my girlfriend have always wanted to go on Safari to Africa.
I'd love to go to the Masai Mara.
Can anyone recommend a company to go with and what the experiences have been?
Would be really greatful for the help.
Cheers,

| | | Re: Recommendations for an African Safari??? Naturetrek do some good safaris- including some budget ones, which are excellent value for money. Masai Mara is a fabulous place + good to see the big 5, though the White Rhino are a few re-introduced from South Africa. Sadly there are no night drives here which for me was the only disappointment.
I've just come back from a long week in South Luangwa in Zambia where we did morning + afternoon/night drives daily. I saw c150 bird species, 25 mammals, 10 reptiles + many butterflies/dragonflies.
Kruger, South Africa is also a good safari area where I did my first African trip though may be a bit commercialised for some, but the wildlife is abundant + again you can go on night drives too.
When you've been to Africa you'll find the urge to return as often as you can- I'm already looking forward to returning again! |

| | | Re: Recommendations for an African Safari??? Explore do some pretty decent group trips. Though they (like Exodus) tend to go for a 'wilder' experience. I've used them twice though and been very happy both times. Like an earlier posting, I too went to Kruger a few years ago and enjoyed it a great deal.

| | | Re: Recommendations for an African Safari??? I have been to kenya a few times now. I suggest the first thing you need to do is check as to how much of a hammering your finances can take. Due to the large number of places to do your safari in Kenya, you really need to consider whether you want a fkly safari or road safari. If you fly, you will be need about £3000 + each for a week safari. I suggest you check out Kuoni (We stayed at their 'Mara Bushtops' recently and it was fantastic.) A drive safari will be about £1,800 each, can also be very good but the roads are no where near UK standards. Thomas Cook signature holidays in Kenya are a reasonable price as are Virgin holidays. One question you really need to ask the tour operator is whether everyone on the vehilce gets a guaranteed window seat. Some of the vehilces I saw driving round had people crammed into them. The last thing you want to do is go all the way out there just to see the back of someone's head. Kenya is truely fantistic and if you do not make it there this time I strongly suggest you put it on your 'list of places to visit one day' |
