Sedimentary rock composed of coarse sand grains with inclusions of small stones. It's a coarser version of sandstone.

| | | Re: The Roaches,Staffs. I believe the wallabies have died out. The Roaches were my stomping ground when I lived near Stoke, often there three or four times a week on summer evenings.
Back in 1988 I decided to try to see the wallabies as a friend had recently seen them, so I set off at 4am on a day of light drizzle hoping an early start might, just might, reap rewards, though all be it like looking for a needle in a haystack. By 5am I was positioned in the heather above the rocky gorge known as Lud's Church, and just sat and waited, trying to be as still as possible. The fine rain didn't help! After about two hours I thought enough's enough (they might after all be the other side of the moors), and started to unwind and uncurl myself. Turning my head round....there, just three metres away, was a wallaby, motionless, but carefully eyeing me up. I got the impression it had been watching me for some time. Then another appeared, bounding through the heather and bracken - we all stood and watched each other for ten minutes! Sadly no photos - light was appalling, despite it being early June, but the memory lives on. I was back home for breakfast, in an excitable daze....and even now that special morning still feels like a dream!
I hope they may have hung on, but a few years ago there was an "official" announcement that the wallabies had died out. |
