| | | Re: Donna Nook seals... Hi Dan here are the references for the Stonebridge car park which I believe is where the best views can be had OS: 113 • GR: TF 422998 Stonebridge entrance.
The road down to the actual car park is fairly narrow, (passing places) and it can get busy at a weekend.

There is an overspill car park .. in a field on the right as you approach .. almost directly opposite the cottages ..
Once you pass the Electricity Sub-station (just off the main car park) .. turn right .. and you'll see the Seal Wardens hut .. where you can get the latest updates ..
I understand there's also a "resident" Glaucous Gull there at the moment .. feasting on placental material ...
Have a good day ..
Bye for now ..

| | | Re: Donna Nook seals... I've not been before but from what i gather weekdays tuesday to thursday are pleasant, and by far best to go.
I think it's Mondays and Fridays you stand a slim chance of being cannon fodder. Although it'll be interesting to see how low they go.
Weekends, unless you go early like i am in 4 hours then it's rammed with families with screaming kids chasing all the birds away |

Dave P. | Shouldn't worry about the bombing range the seals are right up the shore by the foot path, last year they were almost in the car park This is only when they are pupping though, so make the most of the next two or three weeks.

| | | Re: Donna Nook seals... Now is the perfect time to go - a friend was there two weeks ago just as a pup was born right next to the fence!
I was lead to believe that the RAF only use it as a bombing range on certain days of the week - you can find that out from the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust presumably as they are the ones that supply the wardens for the beach I think. Red flags fly over the beach when it's an active bombing day or when there's unexploded ordnance on the beach itself.
I'd like to just qualify a comment made by a previous poster, the weekends can get busy but it's always easy to see and get close to the seals and the beachfront walk is quite a long way (about half a mile I'd estimate) so we're not talking bank holiday London Aquarium busy here. It's just fantastic at any time of the week to be honest. Go before the end of December though as numbers decline rapidly after that.
Good luck, let us know how you get on! | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
