Thanks for the info, I haven't had chance to investigate over there yet. Phew, I thought my pockets might have been the deepest pothole in Scotland but obviously not, hehe

I visited West Bay in Dorset last week and thought that I would bump up this thread with some pictures of the cliffs. Not sure how much explanation people are interested in and I don't want to bore you, so I shall give the general idea and if anyone wants more, I'll see what I can come up with!













The cliffs are made of yellow Bridport Sandstone and contain almost horizontal layers of a calcareous sandstone sticking out as ledges on the vertical face. The ledges are very popular with nesting seabirds, pigeons and even jackdaws.

There are a lot of rock falls in the area and these sometimes leave the vertical face looking quite smooth. The undercut cliff is a little way to the east of West Bay at Burton Bradstock and after that the sandstone runs out.

I think a geology forum would be a great idea, Certainly fossils everywhere round here on the Jurassic coast.
