Nobody should blame one set of people ie dog owners or horse riders. What about the people who drop litter, what about the people who drive over the speed limit or park on the road side instead of the many parking areas. There is one simple way to protect wildlife in the new forest, build a big fence and stop everybody from getting in. But that would be a stupid and besides people live there. Education and enforcement are the answers

BWD | I suspect the National Park Plan extends considerably further than to those groups - dog walkers and the horseyculture people - who have recently made their feelings known, and that there will be something in it to annoy everyone. These issues are "hot" at the moment because the NPA Plan is going through a "consultative" period and as they say "no plan survives the first encounter with the enemy"! I suspect all the National Parks went through the same process when they were set up, albeit in an age when the motorcar was not so pre-eminent.
The conflict between those entitled to particular ancient liberties and privileges within the Forest and the NPA may prove particularly interesting. Contrary to the impression given, the former are by no means the only people living in the New Forest NP. It may be a rude awakening for some who assumed that the liberties applied to all...
