| | | Re: Dent Dale I'm a bit late - I've only just seen this thread. That was a lovely story Rob, and your gorgeous photos do the dale justice.
I know the area a little from childhood holidays, and from the Dales Way a few years ago. One of the loveliest and most unspoilt areas I know in England. |

Dear Dentdale! I have spent so many happy times here, walking, youth hostelling and camping, etc. And the village itself is a delight, with a few good sessions on the 'golden grain', in The Sun, thrown in for good measure too. One of my favourite walks from Dent is up on to Great Coum, a great 'chunk' of fell, much quieter than the likes of Whernside.
Nearby, overlooking Garsdale, just to the north is my nemesis, Baugh Fell, a Dales fell I have yet to climb. I always seem to pass it as I head to better known fells, yet I can almost feel it watching me, with malice in its stare (no I haven't just got back from the pub!). I find Baugh Fell mesmerising when viewed from the Howgills, 'the beast in the east'.
Anyway.....I digress. For me it's a toss up between Dentdale and Swaledale for the 'best Yorkshire Dale' title. When I'm in Dentdale, that is the winner, when I am in Swaledale, then Swaledale wins.
