| | | Wild place near Wrexham? On Saturday I'm going to my parents who live in Wrexham for tea, I was hoping to nip down earlier in the day and spent a few hours at a local nature reserve type place.
Anyone got any suggestions for some such place within about 20 mins of Wrexham? I'll be coming down from St Helens via Runcorn bridge so anywhere enroute but preferably nearer Wrexham than home would be even better |

While since ive been over that way - I remember a place called Loggerheads - but that might be a bit far west and there is the Dee estuary - if you google them im sure you'll find the information you need. |

| | | Re: Wild place near Wrexham? There is a well known Black Grouse site near Wrexham that also has a chance of producing Crossbill & Hen Harrier, Merlin and various moorland birds. It is known as World's End and here is a link to where it is. Streetmap.co.uk- search results for 323500,347500
The only other place I can think of that may be of interest is at Ellesmere. Here is a link to where I mean. Streetmap.co.uk- search results for 339546,334747

| | | Re: Wild place near Wrexham? I think Loggerheads is very pretty but quite touristy and certainly not wild. At the weekend it can be very very busy. World's end is nearer to Wrexham and you are more likely to find a 'wilder' spot. |

| | | Re: Wild place near Wrexham? A nice wild place is on the Pen-y-Lan Estate near Ruabon, a buzzards glide from Wrexham. Several lanes down to the River Dee with otters, polecats, lesser horseshoe bats, foxes, badgers etc.
I agree with John, a trip to Worlds End must be high on your list. Enjoy it. |

| | | Re: Wild place near Wrexham? Worlds End (Eclusham Mountain) and the road further on round Eglwyseg Mountain is certainly worth a ride around and a stop here and there - the view of Castle Dinas and Llangollen valley is another reason to go!
Erdigg Country Park just outside Wrexham is not wild but has good woodland birds and interesting fungi and mistletoe all over their apple trees in the parking spot!
Enjoy!

| | | Re: Wild place near Wrexham? Ok after this topic I'll have to make a point to visit them more often!
Worlds End it is I think, I've seen some photo's and it certainly looks spectacular!
Cheers for everyone's time & responses. I think I'll have to make this a habit everytime we head off for days out | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
