| | | Places to visit near Plymouth It is very rare for me to venture out of Kent but this year we have managed to squirrel away a few quid and we are off for a week in Cornwall. We are staying in a house in Kingsand on the Rame peninsula just over the water from Plymouth.
We will have our 3 cherubs in tow but would like to look at some old tin mines and I may get the opportunity to free myself for a few hours to find some local wildlife specialities - any ideas for best places to go?
Cheers

| | | Re: Places to visit near Plymouth Haven't been to Cornwall for a few years now but wherever you go you'll find something 'wildlife' to see I'm sure. www.cornwallwildlifetrust.org.uk has a great site. Think it will guide you better than I can. Have a lovely hol. Julie

| | | Re: Places to visit near Plymouth Thanks WW. I'll take a look. Not going until July 29 so have a few weeks to plan it out. I did see a photograph of a Tin Mine on this site a few weeks ago, was from Cornwall and a place beginning with Z..........can't seem to find it now though. Would really like to stake out Otter.....have never seen one in England....guess any stretch of river is worth a look. My three kids are all under 4 (so noisy little things) so I'll have to negotiate a pass with she who must be obeyed. |

By the way- enjoy your kids while they're little, ours are 23,21+17. We miss them being little. Hard, draining work but make the most of your bucket and spade holidays. The years go past too quickly. (Think we must be ready for grandparenthood!!!) ww

| | | Re: Places to visit near Plymouth Oh yes don't come to the west country without visiting Dartmoor. Haytor Rock is one part to go to even if driving through as its the highest spot on Dartmoor. If you pop into a local shop you should be able to find a leaflet on whats around in the area.
I can't remember the name of the place but near Princetown there's a great spot for nature trekking. A river flows down through the valley and its a great place to take the kids. Not fast flowing water or anything so no real danger - sort of a big stream.
If travelling by car then try and plan a route over Dartmoor on the way - certainly beats those boring A-roads. |
