From: Scottish wildlife pics......
This photo is quite dramatic, but a closer observation shows it to be a waterfall, frozen in its cascade over the rocks, after emerging from a river (in background) rather than a true burn which is more of a slow flowing hillside stream.
Seeing the beauty of Wildlife is noticing the Details !! |

HI All,
Some years ago I was having a winter hillwalk at the Gray Mares Tail waterfall near Moffat in Dumfries And Galloway it was January during a cold frosty spell and the falls were frozen it was wierd like walking through a photograph.

We used to see that when we were young in Campsie Glen at the Kirkton Burn where several of the waterfalls froze. Not seen it for years as the weather seems to have warmed up and we don't get the same freezing weather.

Kinder Downfall on Kinder Scout used to freeze most winters when I was a kid and was a popular ice climb. Alas, not seen it that way for years.
