| | | Bury St Edmunds I asked the question about wildlife venues in St Albans...well it turns out the wedding is in Bury St Edmunds, good job we checked!!!!! So, does anyone know of any wildlife venues in that area. I will be driving back to Devon in the evening and have all Day next Sunday at my disposal. I would like to add to my Damselfly/Dragonfly list but any nice place that I have never been before would be ideal. Hopefully not in the opposite direction to Devon. I will travel down the M11 to the M25 so anywhere off the M11 would be ideal Thanks again, in advance.

| | | Re: Bury St Edmunds Depends how far you're willing to travel from BSE Charlie. I mean there's Lakenheath Fen, Lackford Lakes, both worth researching online. I don't know of places off of the M11 though |

| | | Re: Bury St Edmunds Yup, Lackford Lakes, definitely.
It is a series of large exhausted gravel quarries, now full of water, and turned into an excellent Suffolk Wildlife Trust nature reserve.
Kingfishers are always seen, so must be good for dragonfly's.
Take the A1101 heading north west from Bury in the Mildenhall direction.
After 5 miles Lackford Lakes will be down a stony track on your right. Park by the visitors centre.
There is a straight road from Lackford to the A14, A11 and M1, but the connection to the A14 at Kentford is a restricted junction No39 on the map, so it's probably better to head for junction 40 at Higham.
If you have time, visit the Nutshell, who claim to be Britain's smallest pub, bang in the middle of Bury, or just relax in the Abbey Gardens.
