Angel of the North - Berneray Style

Just come back from holidays on the Outer Hebrides and came across what is clearly their version of the Angel of the North on a remote hillside on the island of Berneray. Thought some of you might appreciate it.

The only shop on the island was for sale over winter, I looked every day and did a lot of talking with the wife and family, although I've never been I dreamed and pondered a hell of a lot. A missed chance of a wonderfull new life?

Me too .... I have never been a fan of the "real" Angel of the North.

Do they get crows on Berneray? I know Woodpigeons are very scare in the Uists.

Hi Rob

Only hooded crows. The place the thing was put up was on a land that was only used for rough grazing - no crops anywhere near. So I suspect it really was put up as a "statue" in the mode of the Angel of the North rather than as a functional scarecrow.

Whatever the reason for it, it made me laugh anyway.

I was on Berneray a week ago and I think I saw the same "Angel of the north", but was on a bus and could'nt get a photo. PS. Did you stay at Berneray hostel, Rob?

No but was camping on the dunes just to the north of the hostel.
