| | | Gwaun Valley Am off on holiday for a week this month with hubby and dogs to the Gwaun Valley in North Pembrokeshire. The cottage we are staying at has its own 60 acre woodland (an SSSI apparently!) and backs onto Carn Ingli common and mountain. First time we have been to this area of Wales - Wondered if anyone has been to this area (or lives there ) and had any tips on what to look out for wildlife wise ? |

| | | Re: Gwaun Valley Not much to do with wildlife, but you could get Brian John's books (5 of them) "On Angel Mountain" series which are written as a diary about a family estate a couple of hundred years ago and based on Carn Ingli Common and the surrounding towns. They are very enjoyable |

| | | Re: Gwaun Valley Dolphins can be seen along the coast - New Quay and Mwnt are two of my favourite places to see them. Choughs can be seen at Mwnt and Abereiddy. Grey seals are fairly easy to see too in the Cardigan Bay area.
I hope you have a fantastic holiday. I'm looking forward to going back there myself soon.

| | | Re: Gwaun Valley It's also well worth getting a boat trip along the coast to see the seals around the islands.

| | | Re: Gwaun Valley Thanks for replies - Am going to get the books! Hope the weather stays nice but even if it doesnt the peace and quiet will be enough
Ps we go to Cardigan Bay in Ceredigion each October and apart from Mwnt our favourite beach is Penbryn, you can walk through the woods to the beach and its all owned by the national Trust, like Mwnt. Have seen the Choughs there. We stay near Cwm Tydu further up the coast and last year the beach there (also NT) was part closed because there was a mother and baby grey seal in the caves Never seen the dolphins unfortunately ! | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
