I decided to go birding this afternoon. When I mounted my rusty steed, the sun was shining. Off I went, following a kestrel from tree to tree and wishing that I had been walking so that I would have been able to use my camera. I have used my camera when standing astride my bike, but not when riding the beast.
It started to rain lightly and I took shelter. Eventually it stopped but it was pretty dark and hardly good bird photography weather. Nonetheless, I pushed on, riding past fieldfares and a green woodpecker. Eventually, I came to my usual parking place, chained up my bike and climbed up onto the river bank. It was pretty dark still and it seemed as if most of the birds had either gone to bed early or did not want to come out to play.
I thought 'I must photograph something' and took these two snaps of cattle on the other bank against a backdrop of ploughed fields and also reflected in the river
Next is a view back towards our church with showers around
Another shot with poplars planted as a windbreak on the horizon and more showers in the offing
Is this the sun I see?
The sun did come out but not for long but did provide some stunning effects
And, last but not least:
No birds, but ....
