| | | Lake District in Autumn Just spent the weekend in the Lake District and it's was absolutely stunning. As a regular up there I reckon it's without a doubt the best time of year to go as all the trees are changing colour, the light is just superb and there are far fewer tourists on the roads .
If you've got a spare day or two over the next few weeks then you could do a lot worse than heading up to Ambleside and taking a trip around Skelwith Fold, Langdale, Skiddaw etc, but take lots of film/memory cards and some plasters for when your jaw hits the floor

| | | Re: Lake District in Autumn Have to agree, Stuart. We've just had a great week based near Coniston with highlights including walking up Wetherlam, eating blackberries that most walkers seem to ignore and hazelnuts that have been missed by the squirrels and watching a dipper on a small stream quite oblivious of us, bobbing up and down (hence the name dipper apparently). Even the rain was lovely! |

| | | Re: Lake District in Autumn I've just today receive my new wide angled lens, this sounds like an ideal opportunity to test it out. Any excuse for a few days in the lakes! I'll check out my favourite park for a cheap weekend. |

| | | Re: Lake District in Autumn Sounds like there's been a lot of us up there! I've just come back from there myself, a week in the western lakes followed by a week just outside the Lake District near Kirkby Lonsdale.
It is stunning up there. I'd recommend anyone to walk Grasmere to Rydal Water, along the River Rothay. Beautiful.

I go there for the mountain walking, but I've had some good walks over some of the lower fells. And there are good walks that are virtually flat, alongside the lakes ar along the river valleys. There really are walks to suit everyone.
And it does look fantastic in autumn. I usually go in September, but I once had a week there in November and was surprised at the difference in the colours. It was even more gorgeous than usual (mind you, I was pretty lucky with the weather that week!). |

The Rydal to Grasmere walk is one of our favourite strolls, you get to experience a range of scenery from the river side, to the two lakes, to on the higher path in amongst the ferns to the woods like Rydal Woods and the woods inbetween Rydal and Grasmere - lovely. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
