| | | Stodmarsh visit I went to Stodmarsh on Sunday, and like everywhere else at the moment it was a bit quiet with not much on show bird or insect wise. There was however some birds around, particulary up the Harty Ferry end.
The first thing of note was these two wheatears, a first for me and best of all, just close enough for me to photograph them
Also while i was trying to work out how this digiscoping business works (with no sucess) In the next hide a small bird ran across the reeds just in front of the hide. We were debating if it was a rail as it was similar to a moorhen but smaller and moved slightly differently. Just before this I had spotted a snipe in the far reed bed. Then suddenly for snipe were running about infront of the hide. And one stopped long enough to get a couple of clearish shots
Also while there I saw this dark bush cricket
and this group of swans who seem to have few losses with there cygnets - I believe its the same group I have seen around the reserve on previous visits this year |

I also seen a nesting female sparrowhawk and many hobbys this year there. I manged to get photos of Banded Demoiselles along the river earlier this year there. As a reed bed type reserve only Oare and minsmere are as good (or better in minsmeres case) |

| | | Re: Stodmarsh visit There's the Variable Damselfly too. Good place for them in Kent.
Thinking ahead-it would be a nice place for a WAB meet next year.

Cheers,
Adam | Ah that why I was confused that Harty was next to Elmney marshes on sheppey but harty ferry was in Stodmarsh - its because it was Grove ferry woops! Its because I look on Kent Os for Oare (talks about Harty ferry) and Stodmarsh (talks about grove ferry) and my brain cant handle it! lol
Stodmarsh WAB visit next spring or even over the winter could be good. Loads of Kentish and tresspassers (like em!) on WAB, and this certainly wont be miles away from us like all the other trips |
